TekRouting exists because of a pattern we watched repeatedly before founding it: a capable delivery partner builds a genuinely good system, and eighteen months later the client cannot change it without a purchase order.

Nothing dishonest has to happen for this to occur. The knowledge simply stayed where it was created. The documentation described what was built rather than how to change it, and the only people who had made a change successfully worked for the vendor.

If your team cannot change the system without calling us, we have not finished. We have just started charging rent.

So we write the runbook before go-live, we pair rather than deliver, and we make the client’s engineers do the last deployment with us watching. That final detail matters more than any document.

The commercial consequence is that a good proportion of clients do not take a support retainer. That is the intended outcome, and it is the reason the ones who do come back bring us bigger problems.
